Busan, December 2, 2025 — Women scholars and leaders from ASEAN Member Countries (AMCs), including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Lao, Cambodia, and Vietnam, signed Busan Global Women’s Policy Network. Together with South Korea and the Republic of Kazakhstan, the joint declaration shared a commitment to a sustainable and gender equal future.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals—especially Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)—the network functions as a collaborative platform to promote women’s rights, economic empowerment, leadership, and inclusive education. It also supports Busan’s vision to become a global hub for international cooperation on women’s development.
Recognizing that limited education access, economic hardship, and social inequality affecting women in ASEAN and the Republic of Kazakhstan are shared global issues, the network emphasizes that empowering women is key to building fair, resilient, and sustainable societies.

Representing the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada (CESASS UGM), Dr. phil. Vissia Ita Yulianto had the privilege of joining and signing the Busan Global Women’s Policy Network Joint Declaration, which took place in the port city of Busan, South Korea. In the forum session, she delivered a presentation titled “Towards Economic Empowerment: A Case Study of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Taiwan”. The forum was jointly organized by the Busan Gender Equality and Family, Lifelong Education Institute (BGLI) and the Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS), South Korea.
