Yogyakarta, March 12, 2026 — Researchers from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) are strengthening collaboration with industry partners to advance the development of green skills and green jobs in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia. Through an initiative led by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies (CESASS), the UGM team, involving the School of Applied Sciences and the Department of Geodetic Engineering, recently engaged with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) to explore how national policy frameworks for green employment can be effectively implemented at the industry level.
The discussions highlighted Indonesia’s existing roadmap for Green Jobs and Green Skills—developed in 2022 by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry—which provides a strategic framework for preparing the workforce for a greener and more sustainable economy.

The initiative also aims to strengthen regional collaboration across Southeast Asia by sharing knowledge and practical experiences in developing green skills.
“By bringing together universities, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, we hope to support the development of practical training models that can prepare the workforce for the green transition,” the team explained.
Through this collaboration, the project seeks to identify gaps between policy frameworks and the skills required in the labor market. The findings will help design training programs that better support sustainable economic transformation and, equally importantly, enhance employment opportunities in environmentally sustainable industries.
