On Monday, the 5th of September, Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada (CESASS UGM) held a welcoming meeting for internship students from Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Russia. The four foreign students: Gleb Darchenkov, Tatiana Putsnyakova, Dmitriy Svechnikov and Lia Korotkova, will participate in an internship program at CESASS aimed at gaining substantive experience by building networks with Southeast Asia social studies researchers and experts for the period from the beginning of September to the end of November.
The meeting started with a brief welcome session, where the Acting Director CESASS UGM Prof. Dr. phil. Hermin Indah Wahyuni, M.Si. greeted the international students and told them about the work of the Center, its research activities, as well as the opportunities given by the internship. The meeting was also attended by Drs. Muhadi Sugiono, M.A., Dr. Muhammad Rum, Dr. Arif Akhyat and the staff of the Center, who expressed their good wishes to the newcomers and provided them with the information on the future educational events.
The participants exchanged their views on the further development of the interaction between MGIMO and UGM and shared the expectations from the forthcoming internship. Since this is the first time that the Universitas Gadjah Mada accepts interns from Russia, this occasion is believed to become a good practice of educational contact between the institutions of the two countries.
After the welcome session, the students were introduced to the other members of the Center, who gave them advice on accommodating to life in Indonesia. The event ended up with a tour across the CESASS and the UGM campus.
The three-month internship program implies writing a research paper on a topic related to Southeast Asia with the opportunity for further publication, and communicating with the CESASS experts. In addition, students will attend a number of lectures on the aspects of the regional problems and Indonesian language classes.
