[Yogyakarta, July 1st, 2024] – The Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada (CESASS UGM), Indonesia held the opening of the “Smart City, Digital Transformation and Society in Southeast Asia” Summer Course Program 2024. The event is supported by the Direktorat Kemitraan dan Relasi Global (DKRG) UGM.
This year Summer Course Program is a premier educational platform designed to foster knowledge exchange and promote deeper understanding of the multidisciplinary collaboration to address the region’s unique challenges and opportunities, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. The school brings together prominent lecturers and researchers from around the globe, providing a unique opportunity for participants to engage with experts in the field and gain valuable insights into the region’s challenges and opportunities.
Moderated by Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., the opening of the “Smart City, Digital Transformation and Society in Southeast Asia” Summer Course Program 2024 was graced by esteemed dignitaries. Prof. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., Director of CESASS UGM, inaugurated the event, setting the tone for an intellectually stimulating and academically enriching program. Bu Wiratni, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. as the secretary and also the representative of DKRG UGM presented to express the university’s support and commitment to international collaboration and academic excellence.
The Summer Course Program 2024 proudly launches its latest initiative, focusing on “Smart City, Digital Transformation, and Society in Southeast Asia.” This cross-disciplinary course, hosted by the Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies, aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of sustainable development in the context of smart cities and digital transformation. Participants will gain invaluable insights into the dynamic interplay between technology and society, particularly in the Southeast Asian context, enhancing their knowledge and skills in this rapidly evolving field.
The curriculum has been meticulously crafted to ensure participants grasp the foundational principles, methods, and applications of smart cities and digital transformation. By exploring various processes within these domains, participants will deepen their understanding of development trajectories in Southeast Asia and beyond. The course also emphasizes the importance of analyzing and evaluating the growth of information and communication technology, equipping participants with the tools to assess and contribute to the region’s digital landscape effectively.
One of the key objectives of the program is to cultivate international networks that span the fields of information and communication technology, as well as social and cultural studies. Through cross-disciplinary collaborative learning and research, participants will have the opportunity to produce impactful research and publications. By engaging with a diverse array of international lecturers and researchers, attendees will not only broaden their academic horizons but also forge meaningful connections that support their professional and academic growth in the field of smart cities and digital transformation.
The program hosts international lecturers from 11 countries: Indonesia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, Romania, USA, Finland, Japan, and South Korea and participants from many different universities from in and outside Indonesia including Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Nigeria, Romania, USA, Guyana, India, Nepal, Japan, Ecuador, Mexico, and Salvador, who join the program either online or offline.
