On Thursday, the 27th of June, Center for Southeast Asian Social Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada (CESASS UGM) held a welcoming meeting for internship students from National ChengChi University (NCCU), Taiwan. The three foreign students: Suthasinee Huang, Chou, Chen-An, and Wang, Yi-Ching will participate in an internship program at CESASS aimed at gaining substantive experience by building networks with Southeast Asia social studies researchers and experts for the period from the end of June to the end of July.

The meeting started with a brief welcome session, where Mellinia Ananda, S.I.P. greeted the international students and told them about the work of the Center, its research activities, as well as the opportunities given by the internship. The meeting was also attended by Director CESASS UGM Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawati, S.Si., M.T., and the staff of CESASS UGM, who expressed their good wishes to the newcomers and provided them with information on future educational events.

The participants exchanged their views on the further development of the interaction between NCCU and UGM and shared the expectations from the forthcoming internship. Since this is the first time that the Universitas Gadjah Mada accepts interns from Taiwan, this occasion is believed to become a good practice of educational contact between the institutions of the two countries.

After the welcome session, the students were introduced to the other members of the Center, who gave them advice on accommodating life in Indonesia. The event ended with a tour of the CESASS UGM and an introduction to the UGM campus.

The internship program implies writing a research paper on a topic related to Southeast Asia with the opportunity for further publication and communicating with the CESASS UGM experts. In addition, students will attend several lectures on the aspects of regional problems and give Mandarin classes to Indonesian students.
