World Class Professor: CESASS UGM Researcher Contested Ideas in Germany

As a form of reciprocity towards the process of exchanging knowledge and joint publication, the research team of Centre for Southeast Asian Social Studies (CESASS) Universitas Gadjah Mada visited Germany from the 25th November 2017 till the 8th December 2017. The visit was a response visit, as 2 German professors had initially made a visit, Prof. Thomas Hanitzsch (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitӓt Müchen) and Prof. Judith Schlehe (Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg), whom were the visiting professors for the World Class Professor (WCP) program by Kemenristekdikti.

The research team of CESASS consisted of Dr. phil. Hermin Indah Wahyuni, Muhadi Sugiono, M.A., Dr. Agus Suwignyo, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, Dr.phil. Vissia Ita Yulianto, Andi Awaluddin Fitrah, M.A., Aditya Indra Nugraha, S.Ant, and Fitri Handayani, S.IP. In Germany, they visited München and Freiburg as part of their research and journal which was a working progress, working collaboratively with Prof. Thomas Hanitzsch and Prof. Judith Schlehe.

During the meeting at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies (SEAS) Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, the research team of CESASS UGM presented their research on maritime disaster within the perspective of social studies, amongst others include the research entitled, ‘Ecological Communication: Social Adaptation to Maritime Disasters in Indonesia’, headed by Dr.phil. Hermin Indah Wahyuni, or the research entitled, ‘Exploiting the Coast, Breeding the Risk: Preliminary Fidnings on the State-Society Contention in Coastal-Based Economy, Yogyakarta’ by Dr. Wawan Mas’udi. The presentation became the main topic discussed between the research team of CESASS and the German academia’s. (Meike/Dipka)
