Under the theme “Transformation of Socio-Cultures, Languages, and Identities in Southeast Asia,” the conference will convene leading scholars, researchers and students from across Southeast Asia and beyond to examine the dynamic social, cultural, and linguistic transformations shaping the region today.

As part of its commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research, fostering international academic collaboration, and strengthening regional scholarly networks, CESASS is proud to support this important platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange. The conference will explore critical issues related to cultural transformation, language diversity, identity formation, migration, digitalization, heritage preservation, education, and regional integration.

ICSAS 2026 will feature keynote addresses by prominent academic leaders and distinguished scholars:

  • Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D., Rector, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia
  • Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Assoc. Prof. Chaiwat Meesanthan, Ph.D., Director, Institute of East Asian Studies, Thammasat University, Thailand

Their keynote presentations will provide valuable insights into the evolving socio-cultural landscapes of Southeast Asia and the implications of these transformations for education, research, policy, and regional cooperation.

“ICSAS 2026 represents a significant opportunity to deepen regional academic cooperation and advance critical conversations on the future of Southeast Asian studies. Together with the Faculty of Cultural Science UGM, CESASS is honored to collaborate with NCCU and our distinguished partners in bringing together scholars and thought leaders committed to understanding the region’s evolving realities,” said Dr. Ita, CESASS representative who was an exchange associate professor in NCCU (2022–2024). To be noted, cooperation between NCCU and UGM develops significantly through many schemes including, exchange professors, students exchange, short course, joint supervision and joint research and publications.
